Things to Do

  1. Dos Vacas Muertas is a 6-acre preserve protected on three sides by salt cedar, with trees, a small fresh water pond and lots more. The rear opens out to intertidal marshlands.

  4. From Galveston, exit FM 3005 immediately before the bridge to access the beach, sand flats, birding spots, and fishing spots.
  5. The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier features family-oriented attractions including rides, midway games, a wide selection of food venues and retail shops.
  6. FeatherFest — the island’s annual birding and nature photography festival — is the perfect time for birders and people who just enjoy being outside to visit Galveston. Dates: usually the third weekend in April.
  7. Challenge your friends or family to a round of golf at Moody Gardens.
  8. The AIA Sandcastle Competition is a fundraising event for AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation as well as one of the top five revenue-generating events for the City of Galveston.
  9. Moody Gardens is a public, non-profit educational destination utilizing nature in the advancement of rehabilitation, conservation, recreation, and research.
  10. At more than 10 miles long and 17 feet high, Galveston’s seawall is the longest continuous sidewalk in the country and the world’s longest mural.
